Maverick2's Blog

Hoe your row.

I learned what this meant from my mama.  I am a mamas boy and I am proud of it.  My mama wasn’t a religious woman until later in life, but she has been a spiritual woman all of her life.  I remember that about my youth and my relationship with her more than anything else.

Mama had and still has a spiritual connection with her Heavenly Father that is uncommon.  She really FEELS things.  Maybe thats where I get it.  I don’t know.

The Lord used my mama to teach me lessons that I still talk about to this day.  My stories are stories that happen to everyone, but the older I get the more I realize not everyone receives these messages as though from the Lord.

As a little boy, I remember talking aloud to the Lord every day.  He was my friend.  I wasn’t raised in Church so I didn’t call Him Jesus or by any other name.  He was just my friend.  When things got rough at home I would talk to my friend.  There were times things got really rough.  When they did get rough I would often go hide in the shadows of a little place in the woods.  It seemed that in this place, that it was always cool yet the sunlight would shine through upon my head no matter the time I would go to this secret place.  This was MY secret place.

Mama found me there one day and there forward would always know where to find me if I went off by myself.  The Lord’s Spirit was and still is in that little place.  I would sit there and talk to my friend and listen as my friend would speak back to me.

I would tell mama how my secret place was cool but always warm at the same time.  She asked why it was my secret place and I would tell her that my friend was there.  She told me that my friend was Jesus.  You gotta understand that this was a time when my parents had also taken me to the Doctor to determine why I was talking to invisible friends and hearing voices in my head.   Some of you that know me will get a kick out of that!

At an early age, I bought into that. My friend was Jesus.  I could always go to my secret spot and have a little talk with Jesus.  He talked to me too!  Mama told me that it was something others wouldn’t understand and that was a relationship that was BETTER FELT THAN TOLD.

To this day, mama is still the only one beside me that knows where the secret place is at.  God has always spoken to me through mama and I guess He always will.

Fast forward a little.  My paw paw was a crop farmer so of course we grew our own food for the most part.  Mama was frugal.  She bought what she couldn’t grow at the grocery store and she didn’t buy it unless it was double coupon day.  I can still remember being perplexed as there were times mama walked out of Triangle grocery store in Rockmart, Ga with a buggy full of groceries yet the grocery store had to pay her.

I still remember those Summer’s when extended family members came over to work the garden.  Mama, her parents, her sister, and our cousins would work in those fields daily.  We would all share the harvest.  The women would can or freeze everything from cucumbers, squash, peas, corn, okra, tomatoes and much more.  We grew peanuts, melons, and cantaloupe too.  I was just young enough that I only remember seeing cotton picked a few times.  I was too young to do it but I do remember dragging paw paws tow sack or at least thats what I remember it being called.  I certainly remember dragging those old canvas sacks when we picked corn.  Good times.  It didn’t feel like it then but those were good times.  Once I was finally of age to work more and pretend work less, I was given work to do just like my older cousins.  I recall the first time mama told me that I had to hoe my row.

If you’re reading this then you know exactly what the phrase means.  I doubt many young people are reading this blog.  I asked my son the other day if he had ever heard the term “hoe your row” and he thought I was using a bad word.  I had to prove otherwise by showing him a hoe.

Anyway, mama showed me the row I would have to hoe before I could play with my cousins.  As a little fella that row looked so long.  The row I had to hoe looked like it could have been a mile long.  I still remember feeling in my heart that I would never get finished “hoeing my row” and I would certainly not get to play.  Everyone else was so much faster at it than I was.

It really is kinda like weight loss if you think about it.  I had more than 100 pounds to lose and lost it all in under 6 months of diligent work and effort.  Now I get to play more.  To me, weight loss is easy.  Anyone can do it and do it quickly.  In other words, I get to have more holidays while maintaining my weight than someone just starting this lifestyle.  To someone new at Shibboleth and who has lots of weight to lose it can appear to be a long and difficult journey.  It can appear to someone new that it’s almost an impossible task.  That is exactly how I felt looking down than endless row as a little boy.

I just stood there looking towards mama and remember crying my eyes out.  I didn’t want to even get started.  I’ll never forget mama coming over to me and admonishing me.  She told me to “dry it up” and to get to work.  She said that I would have to hoe my row and that I couldn’t come out of the field until I hoed my row.  “Everyone is so much faster and better at it than me, I’ll never get to play.” I exclaimed.  Mama doubled down on her scolding and left me standing there at the beginning of my row.

I watched everyone leave me behind.  Adults and older children alike were working away and leaving me in the dust.  I continued to stand there and cry with snot bubbles popping.  It didn’t do any good.  With no other options remaining, I remember looking down as I began to pull the weeds surrounding the okra plants up at the root with my hoe.  I just put my head down and focused on the task at hand.  I was slow but I was making progress.  I stopped paying attention to everyone else and the speed of which they were hoeing their own rows.  I focused on my journey and not anyone else’s.   I still can remember feeling the SATISFACTION of working my row.

All of the sudden I hear playful noise.  I see a ball being thrown.  I see my cousins playing.  Everyone is leaving the field but me.  I was the only one still having to hoe their row.  I looked at my spot on my own row and I wasn’t even a quarter of the way through.  My cousins would be leaving before I could finish the work that was still before me.

I know that many of you that are trying to lose weight are feeling this same way.  Friends, family or acquaintances have lost weight faster than you.  They are receiving recognition and appear to have found a new lease on life while you are still struggling and trying to lose the weight.  It seems at times that everyone is leaving you behind and that you are going to be the last one to the party.  Thats the way I felt standing there in that field.  At least until My Friend showed up.

I stood there as I watched mama walk out of the field and lay her hoe against the side of the barn.  I was forgotten.  I just stood their sobbing and looking at my mama.  I am 46 years of age and couldn’t have been more than ten years old at the time.  I still remember the FEELING when mama looked at me and our eyes met.  I seen her smile.  She picked her hoe up and started walking.  She began walking to the other end of my row.  I will never forget the feeling when I saw her working the other end of my row and working back towards where I was standing.  I started hoeing my row with pure joy as my mama, my friend began working back to me.  Together we finished that row and I got to put my hoe up and play a little while.

It’s not the playing that I recall.  It’s the work that I recall.  It is the work and effort that is the fondest of memories.  As well, its the FEELING that I had when I seen my mama go to the other end of the row and help me complete what I started.  Once you do the work to lose this weight, with Shibboleth’s help and God’s help you’re going to FEEL the same satisfaction.

As I look back, my mama wasn’t much more than a kid herself.  She married my Father when she was sixteen years of age and had me when she was eighteen years of age.  She’s been hoeing her row a long time and she has always helped me hoe my own row, but I first had to be willing to work myself.  My family doesn’t believe in a free ride.  The Lord doesn’t give free rides either.  We all reap what we sow.

The Lord, known to me as My Friend at that time, spoke to me through that experience.  I suppose it’s because of the way the Lord used my mama in my life that I am the way I am.  I can’t stand to leave anyone behind.  I will stay with them even to my own hurt if I must.  I will stay with them as long as they are trying and as long as they want it for themselves as bad as I want it for them.

The experience taught me much.  It also taught me that long after everyone else has forsaken you or left you behind that there is still hope.  It taught me that if you refuse to work or refuse to hoe your own row that the tasks of life are emotionally unbearable.  Yet, if you do your part even if you do it alone at times, that the Lord will always send help just in the nick of time.  He and He alone will never leave you nor forsake you.  If you work hard on your problem someone will see your efforts and the Lord will manifest His Spirit through them.  God will order some good samaritan’s steps and that person will yoke up to you and to help you.  He always supplies the help and support we need once our heart has met His conditions.

In time, I hope you see Shibboleth’s character this way.  I hope you see Shibboleth as a family that insists that you work hard on your own row but still a family that will meet you half way and help you work on your weight loss goals.   Shibboleth can’t do it for you, but the Shibboleth family will join you, cheer lead you, and support you.

This story probably makes no sense.  I am not a professional writer.  I write like I talk.  I have no doubt that reliving the experience for a moment was more for me than you.  After all, the experience I detailed was better FELT THAN TOLD.  Like all things the Lord shows us through our experiences I hope one day that you can say Shibboleth IS BETTER FELT THAN TOLD.

Bless the name of the Lord,

Travis

Sept. 20, 2016 Weight Loss

When the blind follow the blind they both wind up in the ditch.
Weight loss is not all about calorie counting. Just seen someone tell someone else that they can eat whatever they want to eat as long as they count their calories. They went on to summarize Shibboleth is not the way to good health.
So this means you can exclusively eat sugar, starch, and bad fats as long as you watch those calories. Yes, you might lose a little weight with this approach, but you are fighting an uphill battle. Eating a 100 calorie twinkly and writing down the points is still going to send your blood sugar through the roof and have your pancreas secreting insulin like crazy.

1) Appetite goes up2) Fat storage takes place3) Fat burning stops4) You destroy your mitochondria.  5) Your body produces more bad cholesterol 6) Chronic inflammation7) Auto immune disease8) Feeds cancer 9) Diabetes10) On and on and on and on
Calories need to come from whole foods and balanced correctly on a portion plate whether you count calories or not.
Proteins, Carbs, Good Fats
Furthermore, protein is essential for everyone whether they have kidney disease or not. Certainly, the by products of proteins are hard on someone with kidney disease but that is easily remedied with a little customization of a balanced meal plan.
Wish I had been invited into that conversation! A life could be saved.
On second thought, I am the one fighting an uphill battle.

If this BLOG encouraged you please share on facebook and if others need help ask them to Text MAYDAY to 31996 to subscribe to this BLOG and other encoruagements.  Thank you for being part of this ministry.

Dear Shibboleth friend,

If you really want to make changes in the way you look and feel, if you really want to clear the slate and get this done then you must vanquish thoughts of doubt and fear.  Doubt and fear are the devil’s weaponry.  He will use them tactfully and skillfully against you, making your desire to change fade away.

Certainly, the prince of lies uses many weapons to destroy the good that we would do.  He is the enemy.  The word satan in the Hebrew tongue means adversary.  He is against you and against your efforts.  I heard some one say one time that the only people that the devil won’t bother are those that he has right where he wants them any way.

After some life experience, I’d say I have to disagree with that statement.  Satan never stops being the adversary.  In fact, he likes to kick you when you’re down.  If you are a full blown drug addict he has you right where he wants you but he doesn’t stop there.  He kicks, bites, mauls, and destroys every one in his clutches and doesn’t stop until the person is dead.  He is a relentless opponent.

Resit the devil and he will flee, for a season, and then return when you are weak again.  The devil will not stop until you are miserable, self loathing, sick, tired, defeated, full of despair, perplexed and wanting to end it all.

He uses doubt and fear as the cornerstone for all of his attacks.  Think about this.  We all know procrastination is an excuse many use to avoid having to lose weight.  One day, they say, they are going to lose weight.  Now just isn’t the time.  This is procrastination.  Why does one procrastinate?  FEAR.  They fear missing out on something or they fear they might fail.

What about doubt?  Think about the last time you were excited about losing weight and shared with a friend that you were going to begin a new program or lifestyle.  Maybe the friend said, “I tried that and it didn’t work.”  Maybe they say, “Susan did that and it didn’t work for her.”   Next, your enthusiasm dissipates.  You forget to focus on the thousands of testimonies published about the program and choose to listen to NEGATIVE NELLY!  Doubt overcomes you and you never give yourself or the program a fair shake.

No matter what you are feeling, if what you are feeling is negative, the devil will begin to overcome you with the weapons of his warfare until you retreat.  His goal.  DOUBT AND FEAR.

So what do we do?  The devil is powerfully cunning and full of energy.  He will never stop.

We can resist the devil.  As the Bible tells us, he will flee in frustration and leave us alone for a season.  He will be back.  He will be back when you are weak.

I’ve got good news for the true believer though.  YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER HAS GIVEN YOU WEAPONS.  USED SKILLFULLY AND THOUGHTFULLY THESE WEAPONS MAKE YOU MORE THAN A CONQUEROR.  THE DEVIL HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR.  JESUS HAS DEFEATED THE DEVIL AND EVERY DIET DEMON UNDER HIS COMMAND.

2 Corinthians 10:3

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

So, what is your weapon?  Jesus.  Jesus is your weapon and HE manifests himself through you when you bring into captivity every fearful thought and every seed of doubt.  When you bring every fearful and doubting thought to the the obedience of Christ you ruthlessly overwhelm the adversary.  Your adversary must bow at the feet of Jesus.  When you put on Jesus, the adversary must bow at your feet.

Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root and the offspring of David and He has prevailed for you.  Own that fact.  Sleep in it.  Live it.  Exercise it!

When you walk in the spirit of Jesus, after all, thats what walking in the spirit means, you have the same authority and presence that Jesus had.

Poisonous foods that you crave like pizza, biscuits, gravy, burgers, fries, chips, colas, candy, etc are DEVIL FOODS!  Stop making friends with them and see them as tools of the adversary.  Make friends with healthy foods.  The foods that Jesus created.  The foods that were in the Garden of Eden.  Plants, animals, fruits and other great foods.  Every time you are tempted by the adversary quote scripture back to the adversary and you will bring every unwanted thought under the obedience and captivity of Christ Jesus.

Using the weapons that the Lord has given you is your only hope in this struggle.  Walk in the Spirit of Jesus and stop fulfilling the lusts of the flesh so that you can enjoy the abundant life that God wants you to have.  Perfect love for God, for your neighbor and for YOURSELF will cast out doubt!

A lean and healthy body is a clean, high energy and Godly body.  An overweight body is a low energy, hurting, ungodly body.  Here forward, which will it be for YOU?

In the name of Jesus, make a stand and fix this.

Warm Regards,

Travis

Sept. 13, 2016 Weight Loss

In order to see the number on the scales SHRINK you have to see something else RISE or you are just needlessly and endlessly suffering from the DIET mentality.

You have to RISE above self limiting bad habits and you have to RISE above self limiting beliefs. You have to RISE above adversity, problems, and circumstances that are holding you back. You may even have to RISE above the people in your life that are holding you back.

Until you can RISE above these bad habits and these other self limiting obstacles you are destined to feel frustration, regret and guilt.

RISE. How do you RISE?

R ~ Repent ~ Repentance is a big deal, yet is nothing more than acting upon a commitment to change directions. In order to reverse years of bad habits and conditioning you will need to do an about face and change direction. Those old BAD HABITS and those folks that want to hold you back will have the gravitational pull of a BLACK HOLE in the beginning, but if you keep moving forward the allure of your old bad habits and other circumstances that hold you back will begin to minimize.

I ~ Inspiration ~ You must remain inspired at all times. What is your WHY? Your WHY, your reason for doing this should inspire you. You aren’t DEAD. Stop acting like it. Establish goals and deadlines. Your goals should FIRE you up. Inspiration comes from within. So, each day you have to clear the outside noise and focus on your goals if you want to remain inspired. Look beyond to the bright days ahead if you persist.

S ~ Supernatural ~ In order to RISE you have to understand that you aren’t in this alone. You are not warring against flesh and blood only. You are warring against a supernatural prince of lies whose aim is to destroy you. His sinister plan involves presenting stumbling blocks each time you try and make progress. I have good news too! You aren’t in this alone. You aren’t going up against the devil alone. You have me and you have the Shibboleth family to help support you. Most importantly, you have the Holy Spirit. You have the one True and Living God who will help you RISE. HE is the WONDERFUL COUNSELOR and will assist you with SUPERNATURAL help if your heart is right. HE will help you change the way you think about yourself and how you think about food, if you are determined to walk in step with HIM. Yes, HE has regenerative and RESURRECTION power.

E ~ Enthusiasm ~ The GOOD and the GODLY remain enthusiastic even during setbacks. The word Enthusiasm means SPIRIT. You have to give yourself a PEP RALLY every day. You must encourage yourself in the LORD many times each day. You must cheer lead yourself before temptation, during temptation, and after temptation. Enthusiasm is essential if you will adopt a healthy lifestyle and then maintain your new lifestyle for life.

I know you can RISE up above your weight problem. I know you can because I did it. What one person can do another can do too. Remember to watch those daily doses, take the test, pass the test and earn the badge if you haven’t. On Planet Shibboleth it is a fact that those that engage with the educational content and meal plans on the website lose more than two times the weight of those who do not engage with the educational content. Journal. You need to journal online. Please just do it. Always, BLESSTHENAMEOFTHELORD. HE and HE alone will be the secret to your success.

Please share our membership drive with everyone. To keep this ministry going we have to get it in front of people who need help. Please share this incredible membership drive deal by sending people to www.shibbolethministry.com

We love you and appreciate you!

Sept. 8, 2016 Weight Loss

9/7/2016

If you are reading this you are probably trying to lose weight, have lost weight or are at your goal weight and trying to maintain. If you are doing something about your weight problem, and yes it is a problem, you probably feel better about yourself than you have in a while.

Certainly you got started because you weren’t feeling great and you wanted to feel great. If you are living the Shibboleth lifestyle things are looking up. I have no doubt about that at all!

So, smart people, let me ask you this question. You felt bad before making progress on this journey and now you are making progress on this journey. Now, you feel great. At a minimum, you feel much better. So then why would you ever quit doing what is making you feel better? I mean it’s getting better each and every moment of every day?

95% of dieters who lose weight quit what they were doing to lose the weight. This 95% also put all of their weight back on and their body fat% goes up. Therefore only 5% of people who were making progress or hit their goal and were feeling great make a decision to continue feeling great!

Summary: 95% of people making progress on their weight loss journey and who were feeling great made the decision to quit doing what made them feel great and opted for more pain, discontentment, and feeling bad. Only 5% decided that they loved feeling great and wanted to continue feeling great.

95% of the people opted for instant gratification, over indulgence and momentary self pleasure with a side item of a lifetime of pain, mediocrity and self loathing.

5% opted to delay gratification and to exercise daily self discipline that allows for a lifetime of health, wellness and self confidence.

Do you see where I am going with this?

“The pain of daily self discipline weighs ounces. The pain of regret weighs a ton.”

Diets do not work. Lifetsyles do work. When you take positive action to address your problems you feel better. You have a couple of choices? 1) You can stay where you are. You can keep eating without healthy boundaries that you are willing to live with and to stick with. You can continue to feel bad about yourself. 2) You can take action. You can live within the boundaries of your chosen lifestyle. Six holidays/month while in weight loss mode. Twelve holidays/month while in maintenance mode. All of the other days in a given month must be perfect. You can feel great.

Feel great? Feel bad? It’s up to you.

In brotherly love,

Travis

It's not just comfort foods and weekend treats tempting folks! It's also the allure of quitting. Quitting gives you immediate pleasure, just like the instant gratification from over indulging in food. Yet, comes with lasting emotional pain.
If you want to lose weight you don't have to give up all of your favorite foods. However, You will have to scratch from your vocabulary the words "I Quit."
Overcome the urge to quit. Test your own faith. Find out if you really do believe what you say that you believe. Let's see if you really believe the stuff you tell your kids and grandkids about not quitting.
Well done is better than well said. Stop quitting.
